For some reason my other half and my daughter both use plenty of lip balms, they must both have unusually dry lips! My daughter loses her lip balms constantly, so this is recipe I have made for her that will keep her in lip balm for a while and has the added benefit of not containing any nasties. This makes around 8-10 tins and it will keep for up too six months. I have used castor oil in this recipe as this also gives the lips a nice shiny finish. Sweet Orange is a gentle, pleasant smelling essential oil, and is not too girly. The mango butter adds an additional hit of moisture and I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised how long my lips have stayed soft with this balm.
- 60ml of Castor Oil
- 15g of Mango Butter
- 14g Beeswax
- 12 drops of Sweet Orange Oil
I made this batch to use in tins, if you wanted to make this balm for use in a lip balm dispenser, just use 45ml of castor oil and it will be harder. I ordered the tins from EBay, you can pick them up pretty reasonably. I like that the tins can be reused 🙂 I am really trying to think hard about our families plastic usage at the moment.
Set all the ingredients (except the essential oils) in a Bain Marie and slowly melt. When it has melted, wait for it to cool just slightly and add the essential oils. Don’t add it too quickly as some of the oil will evaporate. Tip the potion gently into the tins and then leave to harden for a couple of hours.
I think this is a really moisturising , mood enhancing lip balm, and it would make a great gift with its fruity, sunshine appearance.
