Blackberry Leaf Tea

This is a relatively straight forward tea that will honestly help to soothe inflamed and tender throats. I find natural remedies so much more effective to deal with colds and bad throats, and if you don’t have access to Blackberry Leaves or Chamomile flowers then making a simple lemon, ginger and honey tea will also be very effective (Don’t drink this tea if you are pregnant – leave out the blackberry leaf)

  • 2 tsps dried blackberry leaves
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 4-6 slices of raw ginger
  • 2 slices of fresh lemon
  • 2 tsps of Chamomile Flowers

Bring 2 cupfuls of water to the boil and add the fresh ginger slices, gently simmer for 10-20 mins then transfer to a tea pot and add the blackberry leaves and chamomile flowers – let this stand for another 5 minutes and then strain and serve with the slices of lemon and melt in the honey to taste. Try to drink this 2-3 times a day and you can also gargle with it following the stage when you have added the Blackberry Leaves – just let it cool down a bit first.

Blackberry Leaves; High in vitamin c and tannins, blackberry leaves will help to relieve your inflamed throat.

Honey; Creates a coating on the throat that soothes, is also thought to act as a cough suppressant as it contains the same active ingredients as many over the counter cough suppressant products.

Ginger; Anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, ginger will soothe the throat and help to fight the infection, it may also assist with other symptoms you might be experiencing such as nausea and muscle aches.

Lemon; Cuts through congestion, is anti-septic and contains high levels of calcium, magnesium and vitamin c – your best friend when fighting a cold.

Chamomile; My cure all for everything – chamomile will relax your aching muscles, is anti-bacterial and will boost your immune system helping you recover quickly.
